Most of us give our feet very little attention; standing or walking on them for many hours each day, whether for work, fitness or recreational pursuits. Yet our feet can be valuable indicators of our general health and wellbeing to the Reflexologist, providing tell-tale signs of issues which may need attention.
The feet contain a hidden power that many people are not aware of, even though we use them every day to get us from a to b and when having fitness exercises. The hidden power is that a trained Reflexologist can read our feet and tell us a lot about our general health; seeing signs of issues that might need attention.
At Relaxation Zone Therapies on Church Road in Hove, our expert therapists are trained in Reflexology and can help use this alternative treatment to help rejuvenate your whole body.
How does Reflexology Work?
Reflexology is based on the principle that there are various reflex points located on the feet, hands and ears that correspond to the organs and systems of the body. The art of reflexology uses this premise that the energy channels ('qi' in Chinese medicine) run crossways throughout the body, linking organs and body parts, to stimulate and revitalise this energy flow. Reflex points (nerve areas) go from the bottom of our feet to the top of our head.
These areas have many nerve endings. Reflexology is a way of stimulating the body’s healing mechanism through the massage of these reflex points. The therapy is derived from ancient Chinese and Indian diagnostic and therapeutic techniques.
Like it says on the tin, Relation Zone Therapies' Thai Foot & Reflexology treatment focuses on the feet and also massages the legs up to the knee. Based on the idea that organs of the body are represented on the feet this makes them act as a map of the body and practitioners use this to positively impact your health and wellbeing. During the treatment the therapists will use small wooden Thai reflexology sticks to help apply very precise and deep pressure to the reflex points.
We do not provide any Reflexology treatment during pregnancy as it is not suitable.
What are the benefits of Reflexology?
Reflexology is not only incredibly relaxing, but it also has a wide range of health benefits which can help to improve wellbeing on a psychological - as well as physiological - level, known to have a positive effect on those suffering from migraines, sleep disorders, depression and pain, amongst other conditions.
Reflexology has a wide variety of physical and mental health benefits:
- Increased Circulation by improving blood flow throughout the body
- Improved Nerve Function through the rebalancing of neural pathways. Very effective at treating- common foot problems like plantar fasciitis, hammertoes and bunions
- Eliminates Toxins through gentle stimulation
- Stress relief and better sleep by inducing a natural calm state.
