Sport injuries can greatly affect your mobility and overall fitness if not treated in the right way. Our highly skilled therapists will treat your body to help give relief from the pain, increase your mobility and speed up injury recovery.
At Relaxation Zone Therapies our expert therapists will make sure to talk and listen to you during the consultation period so they can understand how to work with your body to get the best results, improving the client’s muscle tone so that they can be more flexible and stable after the treatment. We will then work with you to restore your muscles to their natural state, with advice on how to avoid injury and maintain a healthy musculature, before, during and after your physical activity.
How does Sports Massage work?
Sports massage begins with the therapist understanding from the consultation with the patient where the specific problem area is and then applying different levels of pressure to the problem muscles which speeds up injury recovery. Unlike other types of massage that focus on the full body, Sports Massage is often focused on very specific areas and muscles that are connected to the source of the pain.
Sports Massage draws on different techniques including Swedish style effleurage (stroking), petrissage (kneading) rhythmic tapping, gliding, stretching and more. Together these techniques are used by the therapist to improve physical conditioning and accelerate the recovery process and reduce the likelihood of injury or further pain.
Types of Muscular Trauma
Knowing the type of injury you have will help when thinking about treatment and prevention. There are broadly two types of injury – acute and overuse. Overuse injuries are sudden injuries caused by an immediate trauma. Think of spraining your wrist or rolling your ankle. This kind of injury involved immediate pain, swelling and reduced function. Then there are repetitive strain injuries, often caused over time by repeated movement and stress on the muscles, tendons or bones without rest. Think of Tendinitis, Bursitis and Shin Splints.
Please note our therapists are trained in managing pain, not finding the causes of the pain. You should consult a physio. You should consult a physio for diagnosing injuries.
